At a MoST retreat several years ago, I reflected on what it meant to be a Catholic. I came to realize that it was time to volunteer. Our boys grown, I found I had some time available. With Rebeccas encouragement, we started small. Helping with Sunday doughnuts was right up my alley. I love doughnuts! I love coffee, too!
When the opportunity to travel to Haiti appeared in the bulletin, I went. What a humbling experience. I knew how poor Haiti was. Going there helped me understand what it meant. To receive such appreciation for the little I did from the people in our sister parish inspired me to do more. Ive been working on the Haiti committee since my return. I hope youll consider going. Just once.
Mondays at 5:30 youll often see me and several others join Fr. Jim for Centering Prayer in the Thomas More room. We spend a quiet half hour in mediation followed by sharing or a reading. Afterwards I move to the Augustine room where Pax Christi meets at 7:00. Pax Christi is an active group with a growing agenda working to bring Christs peace into the world.
Currently Rebecca and I participate in the Just Faith program.
We have found this program to help us understand what it means to put our
faith into practice. The program meets weekly from September through May,
but already we have learned so much. Nick Travia and Lynn Johal have led us
on a remarkable journey. If you are looking for what it means to be Catholic,
I would encourage you to consider this program the next time it is offered.
