The Theological Commandment In Mark 12:30, we are reminded to love God with whole heart, whole soul and whole mind. Involvement in the secular life of the university sometimes makes it easy to forget that our faith is incomplete, so long as our minds are not engaged and fed by rational reflection about God and God's message. It was when writing about the ideal university that Cardinal Newman observed, "University education without theology is simply unphilosophical. Theology has at least as good a right to claim a place there as astronomy." St. Thomas Aquinas Center has for over 30 years provided the following options for "faith seeking understanding" and "knowledge seeking faith".
Lecture Series St. Thomas Aquinas Lecture Series has - over the years - been a venue for a number of theological luminaries, including Hans Küng, Rosemary Ruether, Dorothy Day, Bernard Häring, Richard McBrien, Stephen Toulmin, Lawrence Cunningham, Ursula King, Ernan McMullin, and Wentzel van Huysteen. The D. Francis and Gabrielle B. Finn Memorial Lecture Fund has made some of these lectures possible.
Lecture/Discussion Groups In addition to the lecture series, several other lecture and discussion programs are offered, often in conjunction with other university events. For more information about credit theology courses, upcoming lecture series, financial contributions, membership on planning or hospitality committees, or other ways of becoming part of the theology program at St. Toms, call or email Dr. Thomas Ryba at the church office.
