Who We Are
Pax Christi at St. Thomas Aquinas
Center, Purdue University is a campus chapter of Pax Christi
USA, which in turn is a section of Pax Christi International.
In 1945, a group of people in France met regularly to pray for
peace. They were concerned that French Catholics
and German Catholics, who professed the same faith, had killed one another
by the millions in the 20th century. It is now an international Catholic peace
movement, organized as a federation of national sections, served by a
secretariat in Antwerp, Belgium.
Wherever they live throughout the
world, members of Pax Christi are united by
their purpose, which is expressed in the international statutes: “to
work for peace for all humankind, always witnessing to the peace of Christ.” Pax
Christi USA rejects war, preparations for war, and every form of violence and
domination. It does this through prayer, study, and action. The main USA Pax
Christi office is located in Erie, PA.
Pax Christi Purdue meets every Monday
during the Purdue school year, from 12:30– 1:30 p.m in
the
St. Augustine Room, for the study of Catholic social teaching in action and
spirituality and to plan projects that
speak to the social teachings of the church.
Pax Christi is open to Purdue students, resident parishioners, Pax Christi
at-large members, and all who are
interested in peace and justice issues with an emphasis on Catholic social
teachings.
