Responsorial Psalm |
|||||
|
There is a prescribed psalm for each day but it is permissible to use a seasonal psalm for an entire liturgical season. The psalm is sung in a liturgy to more fully involve the assembly in the deep emotions of the text. The cantor will proclaim the verses while the refrain is sung by the assembly, thus the name responsorial psalm. There are 150 psalms in the Book of Psalms in our bible today. Emotions run high in our psalms. They are full of sorrow, lament, praise, joy, victory, and trust. The cantor’s task is to help us feel what the writers of old felt as they composed these hymns. |
