Hospitality

Hospitality ministers are those that greet everyone coming into our worship space. Here at St. Toms they have additional duties like taking up the collection, bearing candles, helping with the communion procession, and giving the bulletins to the assembly as they are sent out into the world.

Hospitality is everyone’s task in liturgy. We are all in this together. Helping a senior up a step or helping a young mother with a door are activities that families just do instinctively for each other. We see the face of Christ in each other and react to the needs of the community.

The ministers of hospitality greet everyone coming in to the worship space with a smiling face and friendly “hello.” The ministers also help people find a pew and try to make everyone feel at home and comfortable in the worship space.

New General Instructions of the Roman Missal have recently been integrated into the liturgy for this diocese. Along with these new directives, there are procedural changes in the procession for Holy Communion. To assist all of us in this procession, candle bearers lead the assembly to two of the seven communion stations and extra hospitality ministers guide the congregation, along with the cross bearer, to the other stations. Because these procession leaders are a brand new ministry, volunteers would be most welcome at any of the Masses.
