Why do we bring a basket of money to the altar table? The scriptures tell us that the Church depends upon the sharing of time, talent, and treasure. What better way to validate the hard work and sacrifice of this community, than to collectively present a gift of treasure to the church at the altar of our Lord? The parish needs the financial support of its parishioners to effectively minister to the local community. As a baptized community, we are called to be Christ for each other throughout our lives. Through the weekly collection, we share in our treasure to assist those who need help at this particular time, knowing that some day we may be the one seeking assistance. This is not a boastful gesture but one of humility. A token to give thanks and praise to God by recognizing that only through God we have been blest and through the works of the Church, we share in gifts that we have been given.
